The P.I.E. Approach Level 1 Course
This course will discuss the nature of Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO), its signs and symptoms, how it differs from Exercise Induced Asthma (EIA), the impact of dysfunctional breathing on EILO, the components of conducting a holistic EILO evaluation, the cornerstones of a holistic approach to treating this condition, and the therapeutic methods in a hierarchical holistic approach.
Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) is a complex upper airway disorder that occurs in some athletes and is characterized by a closing of the vocal folds during respiration, resulting in difficulty breathing.
Traditional SLP treatment approaches for EILO have focused on “rescue” techniques to primarily be implemented in an episode.
